| Pellets combine
the penetrating warmth and savings that wood heat offers, without
the chopping, hauling, dirt or bugs associated with wood heat.
Pellet stoves also offer the cleanliness and convenience of modern
appliances: automatic ignition, self-feeding and thermostatic
controls . There are now more than 100 pellet mills in North
America, and since 1983, more than half a million pellet stoves have
been sold, proving this heating technology sound.
Pellet heat is gentle on the
environment too. Each year over 6.5 million cubic yards of
sawdust, timber by-products and other waste material are diverted
from landfills and converted to pellets, lessening the dependence on
fossil fuels. They are 100% organic and when burned, emit
almost no smoke. They do not contribute to the greenhouse
effect, either, since they are CO2 neutral.
Pellet stoves are safer than
wood heat in that they burn at a steady rate with virtually no
creosote build-up. They also pose little threat to surrounding
walls or materials. In fact, some can be installed as close as
1" to a back wall and 3" to a side wall.
Pellets are clean, easy to
store and easy to use. They come in convenient 40lb. bags and
take up one third the space of cordwood. Once you light the
fire it stays lit. All you have to do is pour a bag of corn or
pellets into the stove's hopper once a day. The residue is
almost nonexistent. Only 0.167% to 0.5% ash - that's over
99.5% combustion efficiency! Most freestanding models will
hold 1-2 months of ash when running 24 hours a day.
